Police search for man who sexually assaulted woman in Savannah

SAVANNAH — Police in Savannah are searching for the suspect in a sexual assault that occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, the victim was walking alone on Broughton Street at about 4 a.m. when the man grabbed her, forced her to the ground and assaulted her.

An employee at a nearby business heard the woman screaming for help and was able to help her escape from the suspect. He was last seen fleeing on foot toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard then west on Bryan Street.

According to police, the suspect was described as a black male who is around six feet tall, between 175 and 195 pounds, stocky build and is balding. He was dressed in light colored cargo shorts, a dark colored shirt, and dark shoes. He is estimated to be in his 30s or 40s.
