While Christmas is known for charity and good-cheer, it also has a reputation for being rife with scammers and criminals.

The Norcross Police Department is warning of an uptick in phone scammers posing as police and government officials.

The department says it is getting several calls from concerned citizens who are being told by Norcross Police Department that their Social Security number has been compromised, that they missed jury duty andhave an active warrant, and other threatening messages.

The police department wants to make you aware that these calls are scams from people who are trying to get your personal information under the guise of a legitimate authority.

The Norcross Police Department does not call to ask for personal information and the department advises residents to hang up if an alleged police officer starts asking for personal information or details.

If you are at all concerned it might be legitimate or have other questions, you can call our department directly at 770-448-2111 or come visit our office in person.
