The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent homicide-suicide that was discovered in a wooded area between Majestic Lane and Hitchcock Road at 10 a.m. Friday.
According to sheriff’s department officials, a man was walking on a trail in the woods that runs between Kings Park Subdivision and Hitchcock Road when he discovered an unresponsive man and woman lying on the trail.
The man called the Sheriff’s Office and deputies responded to the area. When deputies arrived, they found a 31-year-old man later identified as Sidney Martell Bishop and a 19-year-old woman identified as Diamond Purvis with gunshot wounds.
According to sheriff’s officials, it appears that the male victim shot the female once and then shot himself in a homicide-suicide. The department is not releasing any additional information at this time. The next of kin has not been notified.
