29-year-old charged in double shooting that left one dead

LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett County Police say they have charged 29-year-old Justin Kattar on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of Felony Murder in a double shooting that happened around 3 a.m. Monday and resulted in the death of 24-year-old Brandon Ricks.

According to police, Kattar has also been charged with cruelty to children in the 2nd degree since a child was present and witnessed the homicide. Kattar was at the scene when police arrived and surrendered peacefully.

He is currently being held at the Gwinnett County jail.

Police were originally called to the 2000 block of Wheylon Drive in Lawrenceville Monday morning after a woman called to report that multiple people had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found Ricks dead in front of the residence, appearing to have been shot at least one time. Police found a woman who had also been shot. Her injuries were non-life threatening.

Police say they believe the shooting was the result of a domestic incident.
