The number of new cases of coronavirus reported each day continue to decline in Georgia. The state’s 7-day average of new cases has been moving downward since August 12.

On August 12, the 7-day average was 3,519 new cases per day. As of Wednesday, August 19, that average was 2,615 new cases per day.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s report of the date of onset, it appears the state’s case numbers may have peaked on July 11, when the 7-day-average was 4,342. Based on the date of onset, the number of daily cases has been declining since July 12.

On Wednesday, there were 2,391 new cases of coronavirus reported and 56 more deaths. The state also reported 235 new hospitalizations. The total number of coronavirus cases in Georgia is 243,982, with 22,664 hospitalizations.

According to the Department of Public Health, 4,849 people have died from COVID-19 in Georgia.
