Domestic dispute in Gwinnett County leads to officer involved shooting

The Gwinnett County Police Department is currently investigating a domestic-related incident in which an officer involved shooting occurred.

Shortly after 11 p.m., officers responded to a domestic call at the Elevate at Jackson Creek apartment complex. An officer heard a man and woman fighting as he approached the residence.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, once to the front door, the woman opened the door at which point the officer observed her struggling with the man who was armed with a gun. The man presented the firearm towards the officer who was able to grab the woman to safety and fire his weapon. Upon doing so, the man shut the door.

Believing the incident had transitioned to a barricaded gunman scenario, the SWAT Team responded to the scene to apprehend the suspect. Upon clearing the residence, it became clear the man fled the location. Several hours later, the man showed up at an area hospital with a gunshot wound.

The Criminal Investigation Division is actively following up on this case. At this time, the suspect is being charged with False Imprisonment of the woman, as well as two counts of Aggravated Assault for the woman and the officer. Case #20-058646. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations responded to lead the officer involved shooting investigation.
