Hall County man accused of distributing child porn on social media

GAINESVILLE — A 43-year-old Gainesville man is in the Hall County jail on charges of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, On Friday, May 15, Billy Eller, of Gainesville, was charged by agents of the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit for two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and two counts of Distribution of Child Pornography.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the GBI and Homeland Security Investigations regarding the possible possession and distribution of child pornography by Eller via a popular social media app. Homeland Security Investigations was initially notified of the possible possession and distribution of child pornography by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

This investigation is part of the ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, housed within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify those involved in the child pornography trade. The ICAC Program, created by the U. S. Department of Justice, was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the proliferation of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims.
