Fatal crash on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard kills motorcycle driver

BUFORD — A 37-year-old man was killed in a weekend crash on Peachtree Industrial Blvd after his motorcycle collided with an SUV.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers were dispatched to an injury crash on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at the intersection of South Waterworks Road in Buford Saturday shortly before 5 p.m. The incident involved a motorcycle and a brown SUV.

The driver of the motorcycle died as a result of his injuries, and the SUV driver had non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police spokeswoman Michele Pihera, the preliminary investigation shows the driver of the motorcycle, Zachary Speir, of Sugar Hill, was traveling southbound on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard towards Sugar Hill. The driver of the brown SUV, a 64-year old Buford woman, was traveling northbound on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard preparing to turn left onto South Waterworks Road.

“It is believed that the driver of the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. As the brown SUV made the turn, both vehicles collided,” Pihera said.

The brown SUV rolled over after impact and landed on its roof. The motorcycle driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Police say speed is believed to be a contributing factor to this collision.
