Georgia Governor Brian Kemp calls Ahmaud Arbery video 'absolutely horrific'

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp weighed in on the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick after a video depicting his death went viral on the Internet.

“Earlier this week, I watched a video depicting Mr. Arbery’s last moments alive. It is absolutely horrific, and Georgians deserve answers,” Kemp said.

Kemp said he was confident the GBI investigation would find the truth in the Arbery case and asked for prayers for the victim’s family.

“I have confidence in Vic Reynolds and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. I know they will work around the clock to thoroughly and independently investigate Mr. Arbery’s death to find the truth,” Kemp said. “In these moments, please pray for his loved ones, the local community, and our state.”

Earlier this week, the GBI announced its intent to conduct an independent investigation into Arbery’s death amid mounting concerns about how authorities in Glynn County have handled the case and the fact that no charges have been filed.

State Representative Chuck Efstration announced that he will be advocating for passage of the “Georgia Hate Crimes Act,” which has not received a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee yet.
