Macon man charged with theft of $900 worth of cosmetics

MACON — A 39-year-old Macon man has been charged with theft by shoplifting and aggressive driving after law enforcement officials say he allegedly shoplifted $900 worth of cosmetics from CVS and then led police on a chase in a U-Haul truck.

Bibb Sheriff’s deputies were flagged down by an employee from the CVS Pharmacy, at 1615 Forest Hill Road Saturday morning just after 8:15 a.m. The employee told deputies that a white male had just committed a theft and left the area in a U-Haul truck.

According to the Sheriff’s Dept., Bibb deputies located the truck near the intersection of Forest Hill Road and Wimbush Road. As deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading the deputies on a brief pursuit. The pursuit ended as the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into a utility pole. The accident took place at the corner of Ernest Street and Grady Street.

Sheriff’s officials say the man ran from the vehicle and was immediately captured by deputies.

Deputies say the man stole about $900.00 worth of cosmetics from the CVS Pharmacy. The cosmetics were returned to the CVS Pharmacy and the man was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Zachary Darrell Sikes of Macon. He is currently being held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center for the charges of Theft by Shoplifting (Felony), Aggressive Driving, and Attempting to Flee and Elude a Police Officer (Felony).

Sikes has a bond of $6,100.00.
