Savannah Police investigate early morning fatal double shooting

SAVANNAH — A double shooting on Avery Street in Savannah left one victim dead and one injured.

According to the Savannah Police Department, at about 1:20 a.m. on April 18 officers heard gunfire in the area of Avery Street and Oglethorpe Avenue and responded to the scene to find 40-year-old Charles Daniels with gunshot wounds.

Daniels was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

While responding to the scene, officers also located a second victim, 31-year-old Warnie Bonaparte in a vehicle, also wounded but with non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Detectives do not believe this is a random shooting and are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact detectives at (912) 525-3124 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020.
