Cobb County is the latest county in Georgia to surpass 1,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Cobb now has 1,014 confirmed cases and 49 deaths, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The county has the fourth highest number of cases in the state and the third highest number of deaths. Fulton County still has the most confirmed cases with 1,945 and the second most deaths at 66. Dougherty County leads the state in deaths from the virus with 88 and has 1,358 cases. DeKalb County has the third highest number of confirmed cases at 1,260, but has only had 21 deaths, making it an outlier among metro Atlanta counties in terms of its ratio of deaths to cases.
Cobb County has about 131 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people, putting it in the moderate range in terms of spread of the disease. Neighboring Cherokee County has about 94 cases per 100,000 people. Fulton County has a spread of about 178 cases per 100,000 people and Bartow, which has had a high rate of spread for coronavirus has a spread rate of about 222 cases per 100,000 people.
There are only two counties in Georgia that have yet to have a confirmed case of coronavirus. They are Glascock County and Taliaferro County.
Statewide, Georgia has 16,368 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 617 deaths.
