Dougherty, Fulton and Cobb Counties have had the most deaths in Georgia from coronavirus, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Dougherty County, where the virus spread through two large funerals in Albany leads the state in COVID-19 deaths with 69. The total number of confirmed cases in Dougherty is 1,076. Fulton County has had 50 people die from COVID-19 and has the highest number of confirmed cases in the state with 1,422.
Cobb County has had the third highest number of deaths in the state, but the fourth highest number of confirmed cases, with 33 people dead and 696 confirmed cases. DeKalb County has had more cases than Cobb with 835, but has had 13 deaths from the virus.
Statewide, the number of cases now stands at 12,159. Of those, 2,479 people have been hospitalized, meaning that about 20% of people who test positive for coronavirus in Georgia have been hospitalized. The state has had 428 people die from COVID-19.
The amount of testing has picked up in Georgia this week and 51,715 tests have been processed.
Other details released this week include the racial and ethnic breakdown of coronavirus patients. While the ethnicity of the majority of cases is unknown, the current trends do show that coronavirus is more prevalent among African-Americans.
