A Savannah Police Reserve Officer has tested positive for coronavirus

SAVANNAH — The Savannah Police Department has identified one reserve officer who has tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the department, the reserve officer is currently at home resting. In addition to this reserve officer, 13 officers are self-quarantining due to possible exposure to the coronavirus. Nine of these officers are awaiting test results. If the results are negative, they could return to work as early as next week.

The department says it will continue to monitor the officers who are self-quarantining. Officers are constantly encouraged to follow good personal hygiene practices as outlined by the CDC such as washing their hands regularly, hand sanitizing, coughing into tissue and being mindful of their physical contact with individuals.

The department is also continuing to ensure the cleanliness of buildings by using best practices in disinfecting work spaces.
