16-year-old charged in murder of 18-year-old in Savannah

SAVANNAH A 16-year-old has been charged in the February 28 murder of an 18-year-old in Savannah.

Today, the Savannah Police Violent Crimes detectives made an arrest in the homicide of Steven Meimen II.

According to the Savannah Police Dept., at about 5 p.m. Feb. 28, officers responded to the intersection of Florance and Orchard streets in regards to a shooting and located Meimen with life-threatening injuries. Meimen was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified 16-year-old Little Jay Lopez as the suspect in this case. Today, he turned himself in at police headquarters and was charged with murder.

Lopez was transported to the Savannah Area Regional Youth Detention Center.
