14-year-old girl killed in fatal crash in Bibb County

MACON — A 14-year-old girl is dead after a police chase and crash that occurred in Bibb County early Monday morning.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal crash on Napier Ave. near Habersham Ave. at 1:40 a.m.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies witnessed a Nissan Sentra fail to stop at the traffic light on Park Street as it was making a left turn onto Napier Ave. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off down Napier Ave. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle on Napier Ave. near Habersham Ave. and struck a utility pole and multiple trees.

The vehicle then rolled over onto its roof and all the occupants were ejected from the car.

Three juveniles remained on the scene while deputies say two unknown subjects fled the scene. One of the juveniles, a 14-year-old girl, was pronounced dead on scene by the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

A second 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center for treatment. Both are listed in stable condition.

According to the Sheriff’s Dept., the vehicle was reported stolen Feb. 12

Two firearms were recovered from the scene, one of the semi-auto pistols was Smith & Wesson 9mm that was reported stolen out of Monroe County.

The 15-year-old boy, who was the driver is being charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Auto, Reckless Driving, Felony Fleeing, and Eluding and Felony Murder. He is still at the Navicent Health Medical Center being treated for his injuries. At this time, he is being charged as a juvenile, he will be taken to the Macon RYDC as soon as he is released from the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation. The Sheriff’s dept. is asking anyone with information about this incident to call 478-751-7500.
