SYLVESTER — A mother has been arrested in the November death of her son in South Georgia and police are searching for a second suspect in the case.

On Jan. 10, the GBI arrested 21-year-old Chassity Nicole Swain for Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children in the 1st degree, in connection to the death of her son 2-year-old Joshua Swain on Nov. 13.

A warrant was obtained for 45-year-old Willie James Rhodes Jr. for Murder in the 2nd degree and Cruelty to Children in the 2nd degree. Rhodes’ whereabouts are unknown at this time.

According to the GBI, in the late evening hours of Nov. 13 Worth County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an address on Lovett Road in Sylvester in reference to a report of a deceased child.

Once deputies arrived, they discovered the body of Joshua Swain, who was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed by the GBI and indicated that the child’s manner of death was homicide caused by severe injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the death of Joshua Swain or the whereabouts of Willie Rhodes can contact the Worth County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 776-8211 or the GBI at (229)-777-2080.
