High winds are expected with today's severe thunderstorms across Georgia

In addition to expected severe storms Saturday, Georgians will have to contend with high winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for north and central Georgia that will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday evening.

Winds are expected to be 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to about 35 miles per hour.

The weather service says that with saturated soil, the wind could uproot trees causing downed power lines. The gusts could also blow unsecured objects.

The service is urging extra caution while driving.

According to the current forecast model, severe thunderstorms will begin rolling into Northwest Georgia around 3 p.m. Saturday. They will reach the metro area between 6 and 10 p.m. and will head toward East Georgia after 10 p.m.
