Railroad trail renamed after famous passenger train

Railroad Recreation Trail in Harris County is being re-named after a famous diesel passenger train that ran through Georgia from the 1940s to the 1970s.

The new trail name is Man O’War Railroad Recreational Trail.

The renaming of the trail is a nod to the diesel passenger train named the Man O’ War that ran between Columbus and Atlanta for 30 years.

Phase I of this trail beginning in downtown Pine Mountain to the intersection of US 27 and SR 354, about 1.1 miles, was completed late last year and is being used by walkers and bicycle riders.

Phases II and III beginning at intersection of US 27 and SR 354 to behind the Mountain Creek Inn, about 2.2 miles, are under construction and should be completed by March 2020.

Phase IV beginning behind the Mountain Creek Inn to the Callaway Country Store, about 1.55 miles, is pending waiting for grants to be awarded in February 2020. If the grants are awarded to the county, construction will continue.
