North Georgia prepares for snow flurries and icy roads

In north Georgia, January may kick off the year with snow. Light rain showers may mix with or change to light snow showers late this afternoon and evening in portions of northeast Georgia.

Minor snow accumulations up to 1/2 inch are possible at elevations above 2,000 feet on grassy and elevated surfaces.

While no significant accumulation is anticipated, according to the National Weather Service, a few slick spots are possible on bridges and overpasses as temperatures fall below freezing overnight.

Outside of the higher elevations, a few snow flurries may be possible with no accumulations or impacts.

Any snow showers are expected to end by around midnight.

The following counties are in the affected area for snow:
Dawson
Fannin
Gilmer
Lumpkin
Murray
Pickens
Towns
Union
White
Whitfield
