Mike Glenn exhibit on African American literacy opens Jan. 4

DECATUR — The DeKalb County Public Library will host Mike “Stinger” Glenn’s “Once He Learns How to Read: A Legacy of Literacy” exhibit Jan. 4 through Jan. 22, at the Decatur Library, located at 215 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030.

Mike Glenn, a former NBA player and current broadcaster for “Hawks Live,” the pre-game show for the Atlanta Hawks, has collected thousands of rare books, newspapers and magazines that document African American history and culture.

The exhibit will feature slave narratives, books and newspapers from the 1770s, including the first printed account of the Battle of Bunker Hill that was printed in 1775 in England.

An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funding for the exhibit is provided by the DeKalb Library Foundation, City of Decatur and the Decatur Education Foundation.
