27 arrests made in two day retail crime operation in Dunwoody

DUNWOODY — The Dunwoody Police Dept. arrested 27 people over the course of two days for retail offenses such as shoplifting and return fraud.

The department worked with the Georgia Retailers Organized Retail Crime Alliance, an organization dedicated to bridging the gap between Georgia’s retail industry and law enforcement throughout the state.

Dunwoody Police officers worked with loss prevention investigators from several stores in the Perimeter Mall area to identify and apprehend shoplifters and those committing other types of crimes in retail establishments.

“Conducting periodic operations with our private security partners is an important strategy to help combat this type of crime in Dunwoody.” said Police Chief Billy Grogan.

The operation resulted in 27 arrests, including 25 adults and 2 juvenile offenders.  A total of $8,237 worth of merchandise was recovered.

In total, there were 2 felonies and 28 misdemeanors charged to the offenders.

“The Georgia Retailers and our member companies continue to be very grateful for the sustained partnership we have with the Dunwoody Police Department and City of Dunwoody. Organized retail crime affects 97% of retailers in Georgia, however due to ongoing collaborations such as this, we are stemming that tide. We want those who commit these types of crime to know it is a matter of when, not if, they will be caught in Dunwoody.” said Thomas Beusse, Executive Director of the Georgia Retailers.
