MONROE — State fire investigators are searching for clues about an arson case that ocurred earlier this week. Investigators have determined that someone intentionally set fire to a 784-square-foot house while its owner was not home.

Fire Investigators with the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office have determined the fire occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Walton County residence.

The fire was set in the rear bedroom closet of the single-story home on Walker Drive in Monroe.

“The 784 square-foot, 62-year-old residence suffered moderate interior damages. The property owner was not home at the time the fire was discovered by someone driving by the residence,” said Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. “Thankfully, emergency officials forced entry into the home and were able to contain the damage to the bedroom in which the fire started.”
