Hall County issues rabies alert after encounter between a rabid skunk and a dog

HALL COUNTY — A skunk tested positive for rabies in Hall County after an incident with a dog in the Chestnut Mountain area of Cobb County. This is the ninth confirmed case of rabies in Hall County this year.

The encounter between the skunk and the dog ocurred near Concord Circle in the Chestnut Mountain area. The skunk was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur.

Hall County Animal Control was advised Wednesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.

Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.
