A plane carrying three passengers crashed in a marsh near Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — A plane headed for the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport ran out of fuel and crashed Saturday afternoon, according to Glynn County officials.

At about 3:06 p.m., a piper aircraft went down in the marsh off of Dan Road in Brunswick.

“The aircraft appears to have been travelling north and headed to the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport and ran out of fuel,” said Glynn County spokesman Matthew Kent.

The plane had a total of three male passengers. Two of the passengers were 17 years old and one passenger was an adult.

Officials say the occupants of the plane did not appear to be hurt and were in the marsh area with the aircraft one quarter mile off land.

Glynn County Emergency Management, Fire Department, Police Department and Airport staff have been in communication with the passengers and the FAA and are on the scene.

Coast Guard helicopters are also on the scene to retrieve the passengers.
