Family of eight displaced after Snellville House Fire

SNELLVILLE — A family of eight has been forced to find new accommodations after a fire severely damaged their home Thursday morning.

Gwinnett Firefighters responded to a blaze at a single-story home in Snellville just after 8:30 a.m. May 2. When firefighters arrived, flames consumed much of the right side of the house.

Only two occupants were in the house at the time of the fire and both escaped safely due to smoke detectors warning them of the fire.

Firefighters deployed two attack hose lines and made entry into the structure to begin extinguishing the blaze.  Their quick attack allowed them to put the flames out within 10 minutes of their arrival.

Although the occupants reported that everyone was out of the house, fire crews conducted primary and secondary searches. The searches confirmed that no one else was at home.

The family consisting of 3 adults and 5 children have been displaced and are receiving temporary assistance from the American Red Cross. While the home is not considered to be a total loss, heavy fire damage is noted to the right side and heavy smoke damage is noted throughout the entire residence.

Fire Investigators are actively seeking to determine the cause and point of origin of the fire. There were no reported injuries to the occupants or fire personnel before, during, or after fire suppression activities.
