Woodland man dies in mobile home fire

Yesterday morning shortly after 5 a.m. the Talbot County Fire Department responded to a fire located at 6370 Woodland Highway in Woodland.

By the time fire personnel arrived on scene, the fire had claimed the life of 67-year-old Willie Steverson.

The 28-year-old, 952 square-foot mobile home suffered extensive damage from the blaze. The fire is believed to have started in the middle area of the structure.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation and investigators were unable to determine if smoke detectors were in the home after initial inspection.

Arrangements were made to have the body sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy and positive identification.

Investigators in the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office are assisting the Fire Departments in Talbot County and the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.

In 2019, fire has claimed the lives of 15 Georgians.
