Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies arrested two people for drug charges on I-16, near Exit 6, (Ocmulgee East Blvd) at about 11:00p.m. Jan. 28.
While monitoring traffic on the interstate, deputies noticed a black GMC Envoy with a headlight out. The vehicle then began changing lanes quickly. The deputies stopped the vehicle for traffic violations.
Deputies say when they made contact with the driver there was an odor of Marijuana coming from inside the car.
The driver was identified as 24-year-old Jamen Kay Gatewood, of Marietta. Gatewood was traveling with a male passenger, identified as 17-year-old Bran Valdovinos of Smyrna, sitting in the back seat of the car.
Gatewood told deputies she was going to Glenville to see relatives and was not sure how to get there.
According to sheriff’s dept. officials, when deputies asked Gatewood about marijuana, she denied having any drugs in the vehicle.
The deputies then deployed their K-9 who alerted them to drugs, near the rear hatch of the vehicle. When deputies searched the vehicle they found a duffle bag in the rear area that contained a remote control drone.
Deputies also found several aluminum cans that the tops had been cut off and then reattached. According to the sheriff’s office, the cans contained bags of what appeared to be Methamphetamines, Marijuana, and clear bags of tobacco.
There were a total of 200 grams of Methamphetamine, 50 grams of Marijuana and 100 grams of tobacco, found in the vehicle.
Both Gatewood and Valdovinos were taken into custody and transported to the Bibb County Jail where they are being held on charges of Trafficking of Methamphetamine and Possession with intent to Distribute Marijuana. They are both being held without bond.
