Two Roswell police officers are being investigated over allegations they used a coin toss app during a traffic stop to determine whether or not to make an arrest.
Since it is an ongoing investigation, little information is available to the public, but Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant released the following statement about the investigation:
“On April 7, 2018, Roswell Police Officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson made an arrest subsequent to a traffic stop. Brown apparently based her decision to arrest the violator on a coin toss app that was on her cell phone.
After I became aware that this incident occurred, I immediately initiated an internal investigation into the matter. I then placed both officers on administrative leave. Since this is an open internal investigation, I cannot discuss the details of the incident until the conclusion of the investigation.
This behavior is not indicative of the hard working officers of the Roswell Police Department, I have much higher expectations of our police officers and I am appalled that any law enforcement officer would trivialize the decision making process of something as important as the arrest of a person.”
