The City of Woodstock announced the completion of significant improvements to its City Center parking lot, which is the largest public lot in downtown.
Using funds from recent real estate transactions by the Downtown Development Authority, the lot has been resurfaced, restriped and includes a new layout that has increased capacity to about 190 spaces, including 3 additional handicapped spaces.
The project also includes a new sidewalk providing a safe and defined pedestrian connection to the shops and restaurants in downtown along Towne Lake Parkway. Additional improvements including lighting and landscaping will be completed in the coming months.
“We felt that the improvements will go a long way to tie in this large parking facility, which in the past has felt remote, to the activity in downtown and provide visitors and employees a safer alternative when coming to visit or work,” Mayor Donnie Henriques said. “We are hopeful that with these improvements and other pedestrian improvements leading to the public parking available at the Chattahoochee Tech campus, north of downtown, will result in better use of these underutilized parking facilities.”
Those using the improved lot at City Center or at Chattahoochee Tech can catch a ride on the complementary Woodstock Trolley during service hours to get them to their destination.
The changes bring the total of publicly available parking spots in downtown to 1,100 with an additional 500 private spaces available for visitors to businesses that own their own parking facilities.
Additional parking facilities are being planned using funds from the recently voter approved SPLOST vote last November.
