So, you know you want to do something involving fireworks or maybe a parade for July 4, but you aren’t sure where to go. No problem. Below is a sampling of some of the Independence Day festivities throughout the state. All of the events on this list take place on the 4th.
Avondale Estates
Features: Avondale Estates hosts a parade in the morning and fireworks at dusk.
Schedule: The parade lineup begins at 9 a.m. and the parade itself starts at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Clarendon Avenue and South Avondale Road. The fireworks start at dusk at Lake Avondale.
Lake Tobesofkee
Features: The 24th Sparks Over the Park Independence Day Celebration at Lake Tobesofkee. All of the parks at Lake Tobesofkee will be open, there will be a live band, and the day will conclude with a fireworks show.
Schedule: Gates will open at the parks at 7 a.m., and Sandy Beach Water Park is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Loose Skrews will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sandy Beach Park pavilion, and the fireworks show will start about 9:15 p.m. Gates will close for anyone wanting to enter the parks at 8 p.m.
Admission: Admission to the parks is $5.00 for every car or motorcycle, $15.00 for every passenger van, and $30.00 for any vehicle that can accommodate 30 or more people. No alcohol or glass containers are allowed in the parks.
Chamblee
Features: This family-friendly event at Keswick Park starts in the evening with activities including a bike parade from Chamblee Middle School, bounce houses, music, as well as food provided by local Chamblee favorites like The Mad Italian and the Frosty Caboose, as well as from the King of Pops and the nonprofit group Cop-N-Stuff. The night concludes with a 25 minute fireworks display.
Schedule: The event begins at 5 p.m. with the bike parade. Live music will start with KingStreet and KRP Band at 5:30 pm and will end with Bogey and the Viceroy taking the stage, who will be playing soul, retro rock and pop and even some of today’s current hits. They will play until the fireworks display begins around 9:30 pm.
Braselton
Features: Downtown Braselton’s Fourth of July celebration includes a parade, food, live music and — of course — fireworks.
Schedule: From 5 to 9:30 p.m. food trucks will be available on the Town Green. At 6 p.m. there will be a parade along Hwy. 53. From 6:30 to 9 p.m. there will be live music on the Town Green by the Moby Dick Band. The fireworks are expected to start at about 9:30 p.m.
Augusta
Features: Augusta’s Fourth of July activities are held at the Augusta Common on Reynolds Street and features live entertainment, a fun zone for kids and fireworks.
Schedule: The event starts at 4 p.m. with fireworks expected at about 9:30 p.m.
Atlanta
Features: Georgia’s biggest city is home to an Independence Day celebration that includes fireworks and live music. The headliner is chart-topping R&B quartet After 7, best known for the hits “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop,” performing with JFly and Friends.
This year, the fireworks have been moved from Centennial Park to the World Congress Center due to some renovations at the park.
Schedule: The gates open at 6 p.m. with the music starting at 7 p.m. Fireworks are expected at about 9:45 p.m.
